D’Angelo Russell has been mentioned in trade rumors of late. But it did not produce any results. However, a recent report said rival executives expect the Minnesota Timberwolves to look to trade him before the NBA trade deadline, per HoopsHype.
The thought process stems from a variety of factors. In particular, the Timberwolves are projected to be over the salary cap and Russell will hit unrestricted free agency after the 2022-2023 campaign. Rather than watch Russell leave in free agency, Minnesota would rather trade him and get something in return.
Russell is still in his prime and is attracting attention on the trade market. He is averaging just under 18 points per game on 46 percent field goal shooting and 38 percent field goal shooting. Russell is dishing out 6 assists per contest.
D’Angelo Russell has been linked with the Miami Heat. With Kyle Lowry at point guard, Miami may be looking for a change.
Russell recently addressed trade rumors in NSFW fashion.
Russell to Jack Fisher Huh! Sports in December. “It’s as simple as that.”
Russell is a talented player with a high ceiling. But the Timberwolves are in midseason and a trade would make sense. Minnesota is looking for a quality return for the 26-year-old guard in any capacity.
We will continue to monitor and provide updates on the Timberwolves-D’Angelo Russell situation as they become available.
