LOS ANGELES (AP) — Three people were killed and four others wounded early Saturday morning in a shooting at a short-term rental home in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood, police said.
The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the Beverly Crest neighborhood. This is at least the sixth mass shooting in California this month.
Sgt. Frank Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department said earlier Saturday that the three people killed were in a vehicle.
Two of the four victims were taken by private vehicle to area hospitals and two were taken by ambulance, police spokesman Sergeant Bruce Borihan said.
Two are in critical condition and two are in stable condition, Borihanh said. The age and gender of the victims were not immediately released.
Investigators were trying to determine if there was a party at the rental or what kind of meeting was going on, Borihan said.
Borihanh said police had no information on the suspects. After the shooting, the suspension was lifted as investigators searched for evidence.
The early-morning massacre at a dance hall in suburban Los Angeles is the height of the violence. Last week, 11 people were killed and 9 injured in a shooting at two Half Moon Bay farms. This resulted in seven deaths and one injury.
Last Saturday, 72-year-old Hu Khan Tran shot and killed patrons at a dance hall in Monterey Park, mostly Asian.Earlier that night, tens of thousands had attended the Lunar New Year celebrations. He drives to another dance hall but is rebuffed by the staff. Most of the dead were in their 60s and 70s.
Tran later killed himself as police closed in on the van he was sitting in.
On Monday, a man shot and killed four people at a mushroom farm where he worked, and then drove to another farm where he had previously worked, where he killed three people, he said. Chunli Zhao, 66, is in custody and charged with murder in what police called workplace violence.
The killings hurt a state with some of the toughest gun laws in the country and one of the lowest gun death rates.
For the third year in a row, the U.S. will record more than 600 mass shootings in which at least four people are killed or injured in 2022, according to the Gun Violence Archive..
