Tony Romo faces scrutiny over Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler comparison in AFC title game

For the second straight week, Tony Romo’s broadcasting chops came under fire.

This time, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was on Sunday’s broadcast for the AFC Championship.

The CBS commentator confused viewers when he started making comparisons to Michael Jordan and Clyde Drexler during a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals. Romo compared Patrick Mahomes to Jordan and Joe Burrow to Drexler in this regard.

The obvious reference was the 1992 NBA Finals between Jordan’s Chicago Bulls and Drexler’s Portland Trail Blazers. It was the same series where Jordan pushed his shoulder after taking a shot. The Bulls won the series 4-2.

But the comparison didn’t sit well with NFL fans watching at home.

With the Eagles’ Jalen hurt, the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is poised to make Super Bowl history.

It was the most anticipated matchup of the ’92 NBA Finals as Drexler was Jordan’s arch rival and considered one of the best players in the league. The book “Playing for Keeps: Michael Jordan and the World” highlights Jordan’s strength against Drexler.

Jordan’s rivalry with Drexler would continue in the 1992 Olympics on the Team USA basketball team. Finally, Jordan won six NBA titles and is considered one of the greatest players of all time. Drexler did not win a title with the Houston Rockets until the 1994-95 season.
