The man who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband at their home last year showed no remorse and continued his dangerous streak against the former House speaker in a surprise phone call to a San Francisco reporter on Friday, a Bay Area station reported.
David DePappe told KTVU’s Amber Lee from the San Francisco County Jail on the same day the footage of the attack was released, calling it “an important message for everyone in America.”
Without mentioning Pelosi by name, DePape said he wanted to “have a heart-to-heart talk about their bad behavior” by collecting “names and addresses” of people he believed would “systematically and deliberately” destroy American freedom and liberty.
De Pape added that he “should have prepared better”, adding that he was disappointed that he “didn’t get more of them”.
KTVU’s reporter was not allowed to ask Depp a series of questions during the phone conversation, which he allowed to be recorded.
The call comes on a day when a California court released video of the attack, audio of a 911 call and his first police interview after his arrest echoed right-wing extremist views, including MAGA tropes, suggesting he was influenced. Dangerous conversations and conspiracies.
DePape also told a San Francisco police officer in October that he went to Pelosi’s San Francisco home because he believed the speaker at the time was the “leader of the pack” of all politicians in Washington, D.C. Consistently.”
De Pape’s justification for the attack shows that the political rhetoric that permeates the mainstream has contributed to political violence nationwide.
U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said earlier this month that threats against members of Congress will drop for the first time in five years in 2022, but are “still very high.” On January 6, 2021, rioters attacked the US Capitol, raising concerns that online calls for violence could lead to real-world attacks, and federal law enforcement agencies have consistently warned of a growing threat of politically motivated violence.
De Pape said in an interview in October that Democrats led by Pelosi had spied on former President Donald Trump worse than Watergate, when then-President Richard Nixon was forced to resign after his administration discovered that he had tried to cover up his vacation – at the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee.

“What Trump did when he came into office was more than just spying on a rival campaign. It’s crazy,” DePape said in an audio-recorded interview with San Francisco police in October.
Without evidence, DePape said that Democrats are in an “endless f***ing crime spree” when it comes to Trump.
“Not only were they spying on a rival campaign, but they were providing false evidence to spy on a rival campaign, to cover it up, to persecute the rival campaign,” DePape said of what Democrats are doing against Trump.
De Pape said these actions originated in 2015. He said Hillary Clinton and all Democrats who ran against Trump in 2016 are “criminals.” But he zeroed in on Pelosi as the one who “ran with the liar.”
DePape is facing state and federal charges related to the attack. He pleaded not guilty.
The video and audio released in court on Friday were strongly opposed by DePape’s lawyers, who argued it would “irreparably harm” his right to a fair trial. Media outlets, including CNN, pressured the court to release the information.
