Newcastle United have completed the signing of striker Anthony Gordon from Premier League rivals Everton, both clubs announced on Sunday.
British media reports that Newcastle will pay up to 45 million pounds ($55.8 million) for the 21-year-old.
Gordon told Newcastle’s website: “After hearing the interest, I was always sure that Newcastle was for me.
“I think the fan base and the city suit me as a person, the way the team is playing under the gaffer at the minute suits me very well and the club seems to be going in the right direction.
“I feel it’s a very big step. People haven’t seen what I can yet. I think under the gaffer and the way the club is going, I can be really good here.
Gordon, who played for England under-21 level, made 65 league appearances for Everton and scored seven goals.
Everton said Gordon left after submitting a formal transfer request.
Gordon, Newcastle’s first signing of the January transfer window, became the second most expensive transfer in their history after Alexander Isak, who they bought for £59m in August.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said: “I’m delighted to have Anthony – he’s very talented.”
“I’m really excited to work with him, develop him, and see what he can do in a Newcastle shirt.”
Newcastle are third in the league table after 20 games and host Southampton in the League Cup semi-final second leg on Tuesday.
